The piece you have purchased today is a simple serving bowl, made to serve food within the context of a shared meal. As such, it is a celebration of community, of nurturing, sustenance, and communion. It has been constructed with stoneware clay and fired in a wood-fueled kiln to temperatures exceeding 2,300 degrees Fahrenheit. The speckling on the interior is the result of ash deposits from the burning wood that have settled on the pot as the flames move through the kiln. While it is imperative to me that these pieces are beautiful visual images, it is of equal importance that they function well within their intended utilitarian applications. Hand washing is recommended.
